The Cathedrals Explorer 2014

On the 12th of May Dunrobin Castle Station welcomed the first steam-pulled train to arrive from London since World War II. The Cathedrals Explorer, formed of the Stanier 'Black Five' 44871 pulling six carriages, steamed into the station with 250 passengers on board. Many more people were on the platform to watch the arrival.

The station building museum, housing the many interesting railway artefacts and memorabilia, was specially opened to visitors for the occasion.

Best selling railway author JULIAN HOLLAND was also on-board. Whilst at the station Julian signed copies of his latest book 'RAILWAY DAY TRIPS' which includes Inverness-Dunrobin.

The trip, organised by Steam Dreams, started at London's Victoria Station on Friday the 9th. The train left the capital being pulled, fittingly, by the 76 year old  'Duchess of Sutherland'. A number of other steam locomotives were used for the nine-day tour around the country.
